The VRQA's authorised officers are heading to Wodonga in early September.
Consistent with the VRQA compliance and enforcement framework for regulating apprenticeships and traineeships, they will check on local apprentices and trainees at risk of harm.
They will conduct workplace site visits in high-risk industries, including:
- electrical
- carpentry
- plumbing
- building and construction
The authorised officers are supported by the VRQA's apprentice and trainee enquiries centre and have powers under the Education and Training Reform Act 2006 to:
- enter a workplace
- make enquiries
- inspect and copy documents.
Authorised officers will make sure apprentices and trainees are adequately supervised and work in safe environments that are free from exploitation and mistreatment. Authorised officers will also look at apprentice and trainee progress against training plans to ensure they are learning the skills required for their qualifications.
