The VRQA has banned an automotive body
paint and interior repair company from employing apprentices. The decision
followed an investigation that revealed that the sole apprentice at the company
was not supervised and was working alone.
All employers are reminded that
apprentices and trainees must be supervised at all times, by a suitably
qualified or experienced person.
Without proper supervision, apprentices
and trainees are not safe.
Without proper supervision, apprentices
and trainees cannot be trained properly.
The supervision requirements are not an
optional extra – they are a non-negotiable requirement of the Victorian
apprenticeship and traineeship system.
If the VRQA finds that your apprentices
and trainees are not supervised, you will be banned from hiring apprentices or
trainees in Victoria.
VRQA authorised officers regularly
contact and monitor apprentices, trainees and their workplaces.
