Survey: Home schooling regulations review

A chance to have your say as part of a scheduled review of the regulations.New home schooling regulations came into effect in 2018. At that time, the government committed to reviewing the regulations to determine their effectiveness and the appropriateness of our implementation. This review has now commenced.

We are currently emailing all families who have registered a child under the new regulations and who have maintained the registration. If you have registered a child since 2018, you have an opportunity to give feedback.

Regulatory Impact Solutions (RIS) is conducting the research on behalf of the Department of Education and Training (DET). RIS is a neutral, external body whose appointment was supported by the Victorian Home Education Advisory Committee (VHEAC). You may have already received an invitation to participate.

The research is your opportunity to have a say and help shape home schooling regulations for the future. Past feedback has helped us improve our communication and processes.

If you receive the email about the RIS survey, we want you to know three things:

  • the survey is easy – most versions take 5-10 minutes to complete
  • RIS and the VRQA comply with the Privacy and Data Protection Act 2014
  • participation is voluntary, but your support is highly valued in shaping the future of the home schooling regulations.

You and your feedback will remain anonymous. At the end of the survey there is an option to provide your details so that RIS can contact you for a follow up interview or survey. Even if you take this option, your details and individual responses will not be shared with DET or VRQA.

This survey is separate to the annual stakeholder survey. Questions in this survey relate more to the regulations themselves rather than our service or performance. The VRQA's yearly stakeholder survey will take place again later this year.
