Home schooling reviews: Understanding the requirements of registration

Understanding the requirements of registrationYou accept certain requirements when you register your child for home schooling. It’s important that you’re aware of these requirements and how they relate to reviews.

If you’re randomly selected for review, you’ll need to provide information that demonstrates you are meeting two key requirements.

The first requirement is that your child is receiving regular and efficient instruction that, taken as a whole, substantially addresses the eight learning areas and is consistent with the principles of Australian democracy. There is no requirement that a child receives instruction aligned to the Victorian Curriculum or that it is structured at their age-equivalent year level. You determine what is the most appropriate form of instruction for your child.

The second requirement is that you notify us of any changes to your circumstances. You’ll need to let us know if you have moved house or changed contacts details such as phone number or email address. You will also need to let us know if there’s a change to the parent responsible for home schooling.

If you’re selected for review, you can update your contact information when you return your review confirmation. Otherwise, let us know any time by using our Amend Registration form. For a copy of the form, see:

If you are selected for review, we’ll provide more information about how to demonstrate you’re meeting the requirements of registration.
